Information the server gathers when you visit Storyburgh
Like other Web servers, our web server automatically logs each visitor who accesses our site. The access logs do not record a general user’s name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, or any other personal information. However, these logs may contain some or all of the following information:
- The date, time and length of the visit
- The browser, device and OS being used
- The amount of time spent on each page viewed
- The IP Address of the machine accessing Storyburgh
- Any errors encountered
We use this information to aid the site administrator. For registered users (both through social login and Storyburgh’s own registration), such information may be correlated with your profile that may be used to provide custom services. The information can also be aggregated for certain reports.
‘Though Storyburgh currently do not place cookies or a similar technology for enhanced reader experience, we reserve the rights to do so in the future. If you do not wish to accept a cookie from Storyburgh’s servers, you can adjust the settings on your browser accordingly. Refusing to accept cookies from the Storyburgh server may result in some limits on the benefits that we can automatically provide as you enjoy the Storyburgh web site.
Information you give us
Storyburgh does not collect personally identifying information from Storyburgh Web sites unless you choose to provide that information to us through social login or Storyburgh’s own registration process. Any visitors under the age of 13 must obtain permission from their parents or guardians prior to reading any Storyburgh story.
Name and contact information
Storyburgh asks visitors to provide personal information when you: register for a contest; sign up for an e-mail list; request information; purchase products or services; contribute material that may be used on the website; participate in a discussion board or wish to become Storyburgh’s member, contributor and guest editor. Storyburgh informs you when a specific piece of information is required.
This information will be used by Storyburgh to: verify your identity; manage a contest; gather editorial comments and feedback; contact you for information and administrative purposes; provide attribution for any submitted content of yours shown in Storyburgh, and fulfill your order or request.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise at the time of submission, the personally identifying information you provide will not be sold, shared, or used for purposes other than listed above. If Storyburgh does wish to add your information to a shared list, it will do so only if you provide permission when you submit your information-by default, your information will not be added; you must “opt-in.”
Demographic and Personal Information
Storyburgh occasionally conducts online surveys, sometimes in association with a contest or other offer. These surveys may ask you for various common demographic information. Unless otherwise explicitly indicated at the time you provide the information, this information is used in an aggregate form to help us understand our readers and improve our programs. Demographic and profile information may be shared with selected third-party organizations, only on an aggregate basis, to describe the nature of our readers.
Credit-card information
You must be 18 to engage in money-related transactions on an Storyburgh site. When you do so, you will be asked for a credit card number. All financial transactions take place only on secure servers managed by third-party credit card processor, and electronic communication of credit-card information is sent only in a secured or encrypted format. Your credit card information is saved, in an encrypted format, on internal systems that are either not connected to the Internet or are protected by advanced firewalls separate from the computers that serve Storyburgh website.
Special note for Storyburgh contributors and editors
Storyburgh does not sell, rent or trade its members’ names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses.
If you use one of Storyburgh’s secure online forms to make a contribution, your name, complete contact information, and all contributions will go directly to Storyburgh. Your contribution information will be protected in full compliance with our Member List Policy.
Special Note for Discussion Forum Participants
The Discussion forum is a way for community members to share or provide leads for others to create a story piece. Doing so will yield to a more engaging, accurate, relevant, transparent and trustworthy. If you post a story idea, pre-authorized Storyburgh contributors may contact you via telephone, texting, email and social media (of your choosing) to ask editorially relevant questions about the suggested story.
